The illustrated mum by jacqueline wilson6/28/2023 ![]() ![]() Dolphin refuses to see her actual mum, she knows what Marigold is doing, but she tries to justify her actions.ĭolphin and Star have been neglected and not cared for, which is why I skipped many chapters, I could not read about such child abuse and cruelty that Dolphin is trying to justify with her pure naivety. Marigold is irrational, obsessive, and moody, and both of the girls are forced to take care of themselves because Marigold is out for days, does not buy food, is self-absorbed and does not care about her children. Marigold should not have the right to take care of the children, because she has serious mental health issues. Dolphin is young and incredibly gullible. The protagonist of this story is Dolphin, and the story is told from her perspective. How this book made me feel: I started reading this book, but I could not fully finish it, it sounds like child abuse in its purest form, and I truly lost my patience. As much as the girls love Marigold, is she the right person to be looking after them? ![]() Marigold may look amazing, but living with her fiery, unpredictable moods can be hard. But Dolphin’s sister, Star, feels differently. She has vivid tattoos all over her body, bright hair and wonderful clothes. What I learned from this book: How gullible children are.ĭescription of the book: Dolphin adores Marigold, her beautiful, vibrant mother. ![]()

![]() Then I went back and read the story at the beginning of each chapter. □ Yes, yes, when I first read the book, I skipped over the reading and read all the comics. She is referred to as ‘the princess’, although if you are reading to your daughter or younger sister, you could easily substitute any name you wanted.Īlso in the book are little jokes/comics which are hilarious. Our princess is never given a name, making it easy to relate to her. This not only makes it informative, but interesting and exciting as well for all ages! ![]() Cantering gracefully with his dark mane waving in the wind, the chestnut hose was nearly as beautiful as the girl. Her blonde hair, highlighted by the sun, flowed behind her, and the crystals on her thin golden headband sparkled brightly. “Come on, Victory,” the sixteen year old girl said softly as she mounted her faithful horse and began the journey to the castle. Long review: a story following a dear princess and her unwanted alligator guide as she struggles to find her true love. ![]() Short review: an Authentic Beauty version for younger girls. ![]() Since it is in my collection, my opinion of it might be biased. ![]()

Night games rl stine6/27/2023 ![]() ![]() I’m not all that sure that the parents of Fear Street really care that much about any of their children. Of course, that’ll never happen because that would require too much commitment from the adults of Fear Street. The island is not safe! Maybe it’s time bulldoze the cabin and build a barrier around the island or something. Both books not only featured people getting attacked on the island but they also both featured people randomly falling down hills and stuff while walking around the island. This is the second book that I’ve read about an act of violence taking place on Fear Island. Fear Island is real! And apparently, it’s a dangerous place. Well, 1997’s All-Night Party features yet another group of teens spending a long night on Fear Island so I guess that answers my question. ![]() Stine’s The Overnight, I commented that it seemed odd that Fear Lake would have an island sitting in the middle of it and I even wondered if this was a location that Stine used frequently or if it was just something that he randomly tossed into the book. You may remember that, when I reviewed R.L. ![]()

Links by Nuruddin Farah6/27/2023 ![]() ![]() On the other, he subverts and re-contextualizes Inferno to create new meanings and to distance his novel from Dante's literary antecedent. The analysis then suggests that, on the one hand, Farah employs Dante's poem to address, represent and understand the civil-war context of Somalia from the protagonist's point of view. By analyzing the quotations from the poem, this essay wishes to show how the Comedy informs the novel at various levels, from the paratext (since Dante's tercets from Inferno are chosen as an epigraph) to the text itself (since Inferno appears to be deeply constitutive of Links). This article aims to explore the complex network of intra-textual and intertextual references to Dante's The Divine Comedy in Nuruddin Farah's novel Links (2005). ![]() ![]() Dante in Mogadishu: The Divine Comedy in Nuruddin Farah's Links. ![]()
